Abstract

41,j, study was designed to analyze and compare the curriculums of Health `6rniatics in foreign countries. The subjects were drawn by convenience from the
zlc ¢¥Pages in the Internet and the research works published on the international ii-nags of Health Informatics.
¢¥he data were collected from Aug. 1998 to Jan. 1999, and analyzed by content oalysis, of which the frame was developed by the researcher. The results of the lady were as follows:
among 10 schools, two of them were BS programs, while the remaining eight were graduate courses. The length of the study was 4 years for the BS program, and 3-5years for the Ph.D, and 2 years for most of the Master¢¥s degree except one ¢¥,which required 4.5 years.
`Most of the schools opened on the year 1980, while one of them started its class on Sept. 1998. It shows the academia of Health Informatics is fairly new.
The admission requirements for the graduate course included taking the subjects of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Science with satisfactory marks. The number
)f students for each program varied from 7 to 28 per year. There was 35 students per semester for one school. The number of professors varied form 3 to 17 for
I ¢¥A-time, 6 to 50 for part-time.
The Objectives of the BS programs were developing competent graduates both in
knowledge and technical skill in Health Informatics, and for the graduate pl-,
gta
the researchers and leaders in the field of Health Informatics.
5. For the contents of BS program, the main categories were Infoiniatics, Computer
Science, and the subjects related to the medicine. The research methodology Wad
added for the graduate courses besides these subjects.
In summary, the core of the curriculum was designed around computer sciCnce, medical informatics, and the subjects related to the medicine. The objectives of the curriculum were development of the researchers and leaders in the areas of Heajth Informatics who are competent both in knowledge and technical skills Based on t i above findings the followings are suggested.
1. It is suggested to conduct a study to develop Health Informatics Curriculum, for the BS program.
2. It is necessary to develop programs for the short term and long term training program in the area of Health Informatics.
